Moreover, this 2圆 header will be connected to an upper perfboard circuit that will contain the user interface (display and buttons) and from that board I will put the 1圆 ftdi connector. The pin arrangment is done in order to minimize the trace and complexity of it. I would consider arranging the serial header in the 1圆 "FTDI" pinout to make it easier to connect an external serial adapter to (with Vcc simply not connected - or maybe with 1x2 header with the Vcc pin of serial header on one side and Vcc on the other, so you can connect with a jumper if you want to) I would probably treat the ISP header's Vcc line the same way as the serial programming header's 5v line. At the end I will program it with an Arduino Uno (you haven't said anything about that, so I interpret that my schematic will be suitable for that method) so I will just not connect 5V. But I wanted to leave it connected it to make it an standard ICSP connector. A little rejigging of the connections near the crystal pins would let you get it much closer.ĥv from serial adapter doesn't need to be connected if it will be powered externally (indeed, it shouldn't be, lest the power supplies fight). I would move it over to the right as much as practical. Traces to/from crystal should also be as short as possible.
